Wilson 7-Card Stud High-Low (8/or better)
& No Limit Tournament Hold'em

Card Player Magazine - Art Santella - 1/21/00

I have been using the Beta versions of Wilson's newest poker programs, 7 Card Stud 8/or better V1.0, and Tournament Texas Hold'em with No-Limit play, V2.0. By the time you read this they will be on the market.

First let's look at Seven-Card Stud 8/or Better. This new program includes 24 unique player profiles and 9 different lineups. When I received the Beta copy of the software and put it though its paces, I was amazed that even in my pre-release copy, I seemed to be unable to find any bugs, or for that matter anything to pick on. The program was a tough competitor with a large number of profiles to choose, customize and set up any type of game, from one full of fish, to one full of sharks, or anything in between. The program comes with a 28 page User's Guide that will explain every aspect of the program and its installation. I found the graphics, sound and options left nothing to be desired. In fact, Max Stern, the 1997 Stud 8/or better champion, also tested the program, and said, "Bob Wilson did it again. A great game and a great tool for people who want to improve their Stud 8/or better game. I highly recommend it."

The next Wilson program that I installed and tried was Tournament Texas Hold'em with No-Limit Play, V2.0. This program was a major upgrade to version 1.0, which did not have no-limit hold'em as an option. The new version 2.0 adds no-limit play capability two different ways:

1) limit tournaments which can go to no-limit
2) an all no-limit tournament

The no-limit players take into account the quality of their hand, the size of their stack and the size of opponents' stacks. I found that it would be a tough competitor. I confess that I am not a good no-limit hold'em player, and this program just proved that fact to me, by showing how my mistakes cost me not only huge pots, but the chance to reach the final table.

You can set the program to play with 32 tables against 319 opponents. This program can be purchased as a full version, or, at a reasonable price, you can purchase the upgrade that will upgrade your Version 1 to the new Version 2 with all the options. This program comes with a 12-page manual that will answer all your questions. I can also tell you that Wilson has great support for all their software programs. You can request information and support, by phone, by E-mail or on their web site: www.wilsonsoftware.com.

If you have installed any of Wilson's software that is CD based, you know that it installs effortlessly and these programs are no exception. I have two drives in my computer, and liked the option that allowed me to install the program on any drive I desired. When it comes to installing software, I don't like surprises, and Wilson's gave me none. These programs were among the smoothest installations of any software, poker or non-poker, that I have ever used.
